Abstract:

Polygon shapefile that includes approximately 1:24,000 scale watersheds in the Susquehanna River Basin (2006 boundary).  This file was created by merging three small watershed datasets; (1) Smallsheds from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP); (2) Maryland Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 14 digit watersheds; (3) 1:24,000 scale watersheds from the United States Geologic Survey (USGS).  Pennsylvania watersheds are delineated at 1:24,00 while New York and Maryland watersheds are delinated mostly at 1:24,000 but some were delineated at larger or smaller scale.  Additionally, the boundary between the Upper Susq. and Chemung Subbasins was updated to match the SRBC delineated subbasin line that exists on 1:24,000 scale USGS topographic maps.

Purpose:

Dataset developed to fit the needs of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission and is intended for educational display purposes only.

Merged the NY basins (watersheds), Pa. smallsheds and Md. huc14 data into one shapefile.
Unioned the watersheds on the state line.  Some discrepancy existed between the NY and Pa. data.  On the NY/Pa. state line, much of NY linework or delineations were used instead of the Pa. data.  NY linework took precedence because the watersheds in the NY file (the NY file contained watershed in Pa. as well for the Upper and Chemung Subbasins) overlaid perfectly with the Pa. smallsheds file.  On the state line, the Pa. file had more errors.
On the Pa./Md. state line, the Md. data had more errors.  For this reason, the Pa. data was used to define the watersheds across the Pa./Md. state line.

1. Copied file to a new shapefile.
2. Reprojected the new shapefile to SRBC projection (Albers, -77, 39, 40, 43, GRS80)

Named all watersheds in NY portion of the Basin according to the NHD stream dataset.  Edited line work in MD to remove any overlapping polygons.  Dissolved polygon slivers on PA/NY border.  A large number of NY watersheds were cut in sections based on gages.  Most of these split watersheds were dissloved into one large watershed for the entire stream.  Clipped and aligned dataset to 2006 srb boundary.
