Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access

Abstract:

Database containing more than 33,466 records on water quality from 1986 to the present from 622 testing sites throughout Pennsylvania.  Information in records includes at least alkalinity and Ph and includes nitrates and phosphates for some sites since 1996.

Purpose:

Monitor water quality with emphasis on stream acidity in Pennsylvania

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:

Accuracy checked through review of volunteer submitted reports.  All sampling volunteers are trained and receive testing kits from ALLARM and must pass ALLARM Quality control.  Sample analysis completed at ALLARM lab.

Volunteer sampled data weekly.  Not all 622 sites sampled regularly for entire time period.  All records contain information for alkalinity and pH.  Beginning in 1996 increased information included for certain locations to include nitrates and phosphates.

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:

Positions of testing sites digitized from USGS 1:24,000 Topographic maps and PennDOT roads and stream data as reported by volunteers.  Location reports include the intersections of streams and roads, etc.

Process_Description:

Volunteers recruited through the ALLARM and associated watershed organizations were trained and receive sampling kits from the Alliance.  Weekly reports are submitted and entered into MS-Access database which is linked to ArcView shapefile coverage of sampling locations throughought the state.
