Description:
Abstract:
"One foot GSD, natural color (RGB), 8-bit digital orthophotography for the City of PIttsburgh, Pennsylvania. The imagery was collected using the Leica Geosystems ADS40 sensor between April 26th and July 8th, 2009 at an average altitude of 9,600 feet above ground level. The National Elevation Dataset (NED) was used as vertical control. Airborne GPS/IMU data was used as horizontal control. The orthophotography is georeferenced to UTM Zone 17 North, meter units, NAD83, NAVD88. The imagery was produced by Pixxures, Inc. under contract for DigitalGlobe, Inc." Data received at EROS were reprojected from 1-foot Pennsylvania 3-band, State Plane to 3-band, 0.30 meter UTM Zone 17 and resampled to align to the USNG using the USGS Seamless system. The naming convention is based on the U.S. National Grid (USNG), taking the coordinates of the SW corner of the orthoimage. The metadata were imported and updated for display through The National Map Seamless Server at Chip-level metadata are provided in XML format.
Purpose:
High Resolution Orthoimagery provides a critical tool for those involved in development decisions such as resource managers and city planners. The detailed focus of High Resolution Orthoimagery provides emergency responders detailed information in determining the best evacuation routes, alternative routes and safe access to aid. High Resolution Orthoimagery assists law enforcement personnel in determining the best locations to place surveillance cameras in high-traffic urban areas and popular attractions. The data assists Federal, State and local emergency responders in planning for homeland security efforts. This data also supports The National Map.

Process_Description:
"Data processing of ADS40-SH51 imagery and metadata is a streamlined digital workflow process utilizing Pixxures, Inc.'s proprietary software and commercial softcopy photogrammetric software including Applanix, GPro, ORIMA, and Orthovista. The ADS40-SH51 sensor GPS/IMU position and attitude data is directly processed through three separate but continuous steps: Applanix POSPAC for data extracting, PosGPS for data analysis and POSProc for data measurement. The post-processed GPS data output is displayed onto the flight profile plot, which clearly shows the RMS values of the combined separation, C/A Code and Carrier Phase. The output GPS/IMU data is also verified by a PDOP plot and PDOP values are compared to an acceptable threshold range. The processing on ADS40-SH51 images is based on proprietary software for bundle adjustment. The image is linked to the local coordinate system through the initial GPS/IMU data with correct position and orientation. Orthorectified imagery is checked and radiometricly balanced in a parallel process that utilizes custom gradient correction software and the INPHO Orthovista Radiometrics editor. Once both processes have passed rigid AT and QC milestones, the imagery bands, red, green and blue are rectified to an RGB product. These orthos are passed to the mosaic team for QC, seam line placement and tiling using the interactive capabilities of Orthovista software. Following the application of seamline and final tonal adjustment, the orthoimagery is cut to a custom tiling index."

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
For color-infrared and natural color DOQs, a digital number from zero to 255 will be assigned to each pixel but that number will refer to a color look-up table which will contain the RGB red, blue and green (RGB) values, each from zero to 255, for that digital number. Areas where the rectification process is incomplete due to incomplete data (i.e., lack of elevation data, gaps), are represented with the numeric value of zero.
