Description:
Abstract:
This grid layer delineates areas of Pennsylvania based on their topographic form. Several reclassifications of the digital elevation model of the Commonwealth isolated three general physiographic conditions, Valley bottom, Mid-slope and top of ridge.
Purpose:
Dataset was designed to facilitate the interpretation of Pennsylvania's habitat potential for mammals, amphibians and reptiles at a landscape scale.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The first class was isolated by the SLOPE command of the Spatial Analyst. All slopes greater than, or equal to, 15 percent were grouped into this class. The Physiographic Provinces data layer was included to help identify the next two classes. Pennsylvania was subdivided into five zones based on similar physiographic conditions among the provinces. Within each zone the DEM was used to help locate a natural divide between ridge top and valley bottom conditions. Each zone could then be divided into these classes.
