Statewide gridded layer providing coded to indicate distance to surface water bodies such as lakes and streams. Grid cells are coded to reflect distance ranges of 1-100m, 100-500m, 500-1000m, 1000-2000m, and greater than 2000 meters.
Purpose:
Educational and informational. Originally created as a supporting coverage to the DRASTIC modelling of ground water vulnerability to pollution in Pennsylvania

PADOT streams layer was converted to a gridded version covering the entire state. This was combined with surface water information from the available MRLC land use/land cover layer. Using the DISTANCE function of ARCINFO GRID a map was created showing distance to the nearest water bodies in 30-meter increments. This map was recoded (RECDIST) to reflect the final distance ranges.
