Abstract:
This layer delineates the watersheds for the more than 9800 named streams from the Pennsylvania Gazetteer of streams. Each watershed has been attributed with a code from 1 (small, no tributaries) to 8 (large, many tributaries) to indicate the order or size of the stream associated with the watershed. Also includes slope and human disturbance classification for watersheds.
Purpose:
Part of the Pennsylvania Gap Analysis progression, this dataset was designed to facilitate the interpretation of Pennsylvania's surface vegetation and habitat models for vertebrate species in the Commonwealth.

This ordered smallsheds layer was paired with the paecoregion layer and attribution for the physiographic province and section containing each watershed was added to the tables.

Slope information was added for each watershed by performing statistical calculations on the padem data to derive the median slope contained in each watershed. Raw values were recoded using the 3 category reclassification.

To represent the amount of human activity in each watershed the palcurb grid was layered with the watershed boundaries. Areas classified as urban or suburban land use or perennial or annual herbaceous land cover were selected and percentage of watershed area in these classifications were calculated. The raw calculations were reclassified using the three categories included in the present layer.
