Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access

Abstract:

This point layer shows the positions within the borders of
Pennsylvania where helicopter landing facilities that are
licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
may be available.

Purpose:

The dataset was provided to the Pennsylvania Department of Health to identify those points where helicopters can land safely and have access to emergency medical facilities, such as hospitals.

Supplemental_Information:

These data are intended for use at 1:24,000 or smaller
scale. These features are available in ESRI shapefile format.

verified by comparing reported latitudes and longitudes
against reported county and minor civil division
boundaries. In some cases, telephone calls were made to
verify positions.

Contains all licensed facilities as reported to
Pennsylvania Department of Health by Pennsylvania

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:

Latitudes and longitudes were taken from data provided to
Pennsylvania Department of Health by Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation. Gross errors were corrected
as much as possible. No guarantee of horizontal accuracy is claimed.

Process_Description:

Heliport data were extracted from Aviation Database 2001.
Latitudes and longitudes were converted from
degrees/minutes/seconds format to decimal degrees. Database
file was opened as event theme in ArcView and converted to
shapefile. All points were compared to reported county and
minor civil division. Questionable points were researched
by telephone conversations and, in some cases, address
matching and geocoding. Shapefile was edited as required
and database information was revised to reflect the edits.
