Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains the 100 most-requested data fields from the TRI Reporting Form R and Form A. The data in these files are presented in .csv (comma-separated value) format.Quantities of dioxin and dioxin-like compounds are reported in grams, while all other chemicals are reported in pounds. For descriptions of each data element and other details about the contents and use of these files, see the TRI Basic Data File Documentation. The TRI Reporting Forms and Instructions document is also a helpful reference.
Purpose:
Tracking locations of Toxic Chrmical Release information. Data includes: Facility name, address, latitude and longitude coordinates, and industry sector codes Chemical identification and classification information Quantities of chemicals released on site at the facility Quantities of chemicals transferred to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs) Quantities of chemicals transferred off site to other locations for release/disposal and further waste management Quantities of chemicals managed through disposal, energy recovery, recycling and treatment; non-production-related waste quantities; production/activity ratio Data includes: Facility name, address, latitude and longitude coordinates, and industry sector codes Chemical identification and classification information Quantities of chemicals released on site at the facility Quantities of chemicals transferred to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs) Quantities of chemicals transferred off site to other locations for release/disposal and further waste management Quantities of chemicals managed through disposal, energy recovery, recycling and treatment; non-production-related waste quantities; production/activity ratio

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
unknown Confidence: unknown. Method: Information in the TRI comes from regulated facilities to EPA through the TRI Reporting Form R, which is available in an automated format on diskette. The Form R information is entered into the TRIS by the EPA. Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks include verification of data entry, data quality reports which check for data entry and submitter errors, and verification of critical release fields.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Some of the facilities that report information for RCRIS (see RCRA TSD Sites) also submit information for TRI. These facilities are identified by their unique EPA ID (EPA-ID and FINDS-EPA-ID in TRI, HID_NUM in RCRIS).
Completeness_Report:
This data layer includes coverage for EPA Region 3 only. Not all the data in TRI are included in this coverage.

unknown. Confidence: unknown. Accuracy Method: The site latitude and longitude are determined by the facility and entered on the TRI Reporting Form R. Each latitude and longitude value is checked by EPA for validity and accuracy. As part of this process, grossly inaccurate location coordinates have been identified and corrected or improved, however, be advised that there may still be inaccuracies in the location data. A description of the correction process is provided in Volume 2.

Toxic Chemical Release facilities and related release information
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
1. Information in TRI updated continually by EPA. An EPA contractor
downloaded the information in the TRI mainframe database and, using
Arc/Info software, created an Arc/Info point coverage for each State
based on the latitude/longitude data provided for each facility
reported on in TRI. The location data used to create the point
coverages were supplemented with additional location coordinates for
some facilities, and by identifying the best available coordinates
for all facilities. The processes used to create the coverages are
fully described in reports prepared by American Management Systems
(1991) and ViGYAN Inc. (1992) provided in Volume 2.

2. The TRI data, retrieved from TRIS on May 25, 1992, are organized in
a series of Info files for each State coverage. The following
delisted chemicals, and facilities releasing or transferring only
delisted chemicals, were not included in the coverages:

- Titanium dioxide - C.I. Acid Blue 9
- Sodium sulfate - Melamine
- Aluminum oxide (non-fibrous) - Sodium Hydroxide (solution)
- Terephthalic acid - Copper pigments (formerly included in
"Copper Compunds")
The case of aluminum oxide is unusual in that the non-fibrous forms
were delisted beginning in reporting year 1989. As of RY1990, the
remaining reports are assumed to constitute fibrous forms only, and
are included only for that year. The impact in the coverages
essentially is to add a new chemical for 1990. Other new chemicals
added for RY1990 include:

o Allyl alcohol o p-Dinitrobenzene
o Creosote o Dinitrotoluene (mixed isomers)
o 2,3-Dichloropropene o Isosafrole
o m-Dinitrobenzene o Toluenediisocyanate (mixed isomers)
o o-Dinitrobenzene
