Abstract:

This dataset contains municipal boundary polygons for Chester County, PA.

Purpose:

As part of the base map data layers, the Regional County and Municipal Boundary layers are an integral part of Chester County's Geographic Information System. Base map data layers are accessed by personnel in most County departments for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production. More advanced user applications may focus on planning, public works, or utilities purposes (including defining boundaries, managing assets and facilities, integrating attribute databases with geographic features, spatial analysis, and presentation output).

Supplemental_Information:

Chester County Municipal Boundaries were digitized in 1993 from the original hand-drawn map sheet linens, first produced in 1959.  The digital file has been maintained regularly, edited not only when official changes to municipal boundaries have occurred, but also in areas where research of historic legal descriptions and plans has shown errors or inconsistencies.  FIPS Codes were obtained from the following web resource: http://mcdc.missouri.edu/webrepts/commoncodes/.

Access_Constraints:Subject to Geographic Information Systems Access Policy. The GIS database is owned and copyrighted by the County of Chester. No access to, use of, or processing of the database or any product, service, or other item which is or may be a part thereof or derived therefrom shall be permitted without the express written consent of the County. The County will place this restriction on the face of the products generated by the GIS, or in contracts for services, software licenses or other appropriate agreement.

Subject to Geographic Information Systems Access Policy. The User (s) of County of Chester, Pennsylvania information provided by the County, agrees that the GIS database, all products and services derived therefrom, and all rights thereto are owned and copyrighted by the County. The County grants the User the right to use the portion of the GIS database (and any product or service derived therefrom). The GIS database (and any product or service derived therefrom) is prohibited from being sold, duplicated, reproduced, disseminated or shared with any other person, entity or party without the prior express written consent from the County. When the County gives such written consent, any third party/vendor recipient of the GIS database shall be subject to the same terms and conditions as the User, and use of the GIS database shall be for the sole purpose of providing services necessary for the operations of the User.Furthemore, the User agrees to use its best efforts to require and enforce compliance by the additional recipient with the terms and conditions of this agreement, including return, purge or destruction by the additional recipient of its copy of the GIS database upon completion of its services. The User(s) indicate their acceptance of the aforementioned constraints by downloading or receiving the data contained on the GIS website.

All land base vector (planimetric) features have been compiled to meet the National Map Accuracy Standard for 1:2,400 scale mapping using first order, fully analytical digital stereoplotters.  Accordingly, these features were compiled from aerial photography dated April 7, 1993, controlled analytically from the ground points captured using first order global positioning system equipment.  Planimetric coordinates are based on the Pennsylvania State Plane Coordinate System South Zone and North American Datum 1983.
