Importing into ArcView

Upon receiving Arc/Info data in interchange format, one may use the IMPORT utility to convert it to a data source in a form that can be added to a project or view in ArcView. IMPORT is a program that converts an Arc/Info interchange file created on any other operating system into a data file. While variations do exist depending upon whether you are importing an interchange file on Windows 3.1 or 3.11, Windows NT or 95, UNIX, or Macintosh, the general implication of IMPORT remains the same.

The Import Utility is available at http://gis.esri.com/download/download.cfm?file=import71.exe

Download the following file: ArcExplorer Version 1.1 Import Utility

1.  Download and unzip the PASDA file you want to use.

2.  Your unzipped file will most likely be in your unzipped directory, if not, there is a browse option incorporated in the Import Utility.

3.  Open the Import Utility

4.  In the Export File Name box, enter the name of your file--for example, smallsheds.e00.

5.  In the Output Data Source box, enter the new name of your file--for example, you want to call it sheds.

6.  Click OK. Depending on file size and your computer this may take a few moments to perform the import function.

7.  To use the file in ArcView, go to the directory where you placed your output data source file. For example, if you retrieved your file from your unzipped directory and did not name another directory for the file, the new import ready file will be in your unzipped directory.
