Finding Files on PASDA

There are several ways find data on PASDA. You may find data by geographic area, such as county or watershed, by keyword, or by data provider.

More information on searching for PASDA data can be found on the Access Data page.

For the purposes of this tutorial, you will be accessing data directly from the PASDA ftp site.

Step 1. To find the data necessary to complete this tutorial, go directly to the PASDA ArcGIS Tutorial Data Directory.

Before you download any data, be sure you have created a data directory or folder on your computer. This folder will be where you save and access all your data. For example, you can create a directory on your 'Desktop' (in Windows) by clicking the left side of your mouse, and selecting 'New' and 'Folder'. You can name the new folder 'Data'.

Step2.
The first zip file you will download is activerr.zip.  Click on the activerr.zip file. This will begin the download process.

In most cases a 'Save As' window will appear after you click on the file. Navigate to where you would like to save your data--for example, in the 'Data' folder on your desktop. Download other data files in the exact same way--click on the file name, navigate within the'Save As' window to your'Data' folder, and save the file.

Once you have downloaded all the data in the PASDA ArcGIS Tutorial Data Directory:

you will then download other data from PASDA.

Step 3. You will need to download two USGS 1:24,000 scale DRG's with cropped collars (this means they do not have a border, like a paper map). Click on state_college_pa.zip to download the State College DRG. Once you have finished downloading this file, click on julian_pa.zip. Be sure to save these files in the same folder as the data you downloaded earlier.

Step 4. Next, you will need to download data from the 'standard' data directory on PASDA. Once in the 'standard' directory, click on the folder labeled dd. Then click on the stexplorer folder. You will need to download

Step 5. You now have all the data you need. You are ready to start unzipping the files.
