Goal: In this exercise you will become familiar with the following concepts: table of contents, symbols, color schemes, classification, normalize, color ramps, and attributes.
At the end of this exercise you will know how to:
Step 1. Open ArcGIS and add the Countbnd.shp to your view.

Note: By default, ArcGIS assigns a single color to to all the counties (this is the single symbol legend type). You want to display the counties by population, so you will open the Legend Editor and design a new legend.
Step 2. Left Click the Countbnd.shp symbol
(in this case the green box) to display the Symbol
Selector box.
Options:

Click on a fill color that you would like to represent the counties. Take a moment and change the outline width and the outline color. Click OK to apply these changes. Next we will change the symbol meaning.
Step 3. Left click "centre.shp" symbol to display the
Symbol Selector box
(in this case the blue line). The Symbol Selector box will give you options to change what your line means (Highway, Railroad, River, etc.). In this case
the river symbol is already displayed.

Next we will change the colors to represent population ranges for the counties in Pennsylvania. We will do this by adding color ramps to countbnd.shp.
