Goal: In this exercise you will learn how to make a layout including a scale bar, north arrow, border, and title to create a map.

At the end of this exercise you will be able to:

Step 1.After opening ArcView select Open and existing project and click OK.Navigate to your saved project from exercise 14, "countyparks.apr".

Note: You should have two shapefiles, "Mycounty.shp" and "Myparks.shp". When we make a Layout these files will appear in the Legend, so the names will be changed to something more descriptive.

Step 2. Make "Mycounty.shp" active then Click on the highlighted name "Mycounty.shp". A cursor will appear and you can rename the layer to your liking. Lets rename the layer Centre County (if you chose another county use that counties name). Repeat this process for the "Myparks.shp" layer and name it State Parks.

Note: Before we create a Layout, make sure you are satisfied with the colors. If not click on the color block beditleg.jpg (5601 bytes)and adjust the look.

Step 3.At the bottom of the Project window click on Layout View. layout_view.jpg
