
Note: You don't need the Countbnd.shp theme any longer, so you may want to uncheck it to simplify the view. Do this by simply un-checkingthe "Countbnd.shp" theme.
Step 6.Check the "mycounty.shp" theme on by Clicking on the check box in the Table of Contents.
Step 7.Click on the "Sparks.shp" theme and drag it to the top of the Table of Contents. This will overlay the "Sparks.shp" over the others.
Step 8.Select the "Mycounty.shp" theme in the
Table of Contents to make it active. Click on the Zoom to
Layer
to enlarge the view of your county.

Note: We want to select the State Parks that are within this county. Recall from exercise 12 (Finding Points Within a Distance) how we performed a Select by Location.
Step 9.Make"Sparks.shp" active. From the Selection pull-down menu choose Select by Location. We want to Select features from "Sparks.shp" that "Are Completely within", "Mycounty.shp". Then Click on Apply.

Step 10. Right Click on the Sparks.shp layer and scroll down to Data. Select Export Data from the drop down list to the right. Browse to where you would like to save this file and give this new shapefile an original name like "myparks.shp". Add this layer directly to the map.

Note: This is the same process as Step 3.
Note: You may now uncheck the Sparks.shp file in the Table of Contents to show only the state parks within your state.

Step 11.In the Table of Contents select " Sparks.shp" and "Countbnd.shp" From the table of contents (hold down the shift key to select both).Right Click and select Remove from the drop down menu. Your view now only contains the "Mycounty.shp" and "Myparks.shp" layers.
Step 12.Save this project to use for EXERCISE 15. Clickthe Save button
. If the project has not been saved you will be
prompted to Save Project As. Navigate to your desired directly and
specify a file name for your project, such as "countyparks.mxd".
Click OK.
Step 13.Close ArcGIS or continue with exercise 15.
