Goal:   In this exercise you will learn how to join tables based on a common field and create a new table based on a summary of values.

At the end of this exercise you will be able to do the following:

Step 1.  Add the "Gwndep99.shp" and the "Countbnd.shp"to the View1.   You will be mapping the number of groundwater sources in in each county.

Step 3.  In the "Attributes of Countbnd.shp"table Click on the Shape field. Then do the same for the "Attributes of Gwndep99.shp" table. This field is common to both tables. With the "Attributes of Gwndep99.shp" table active, Click the Join button join_3.jpg (5715 bytes).  ArcGIS joins the "Attributes of Countbnd.shp" theme table to the "Attributes of Gwndep99.shp" theme table based on the location of features in the two themes.

Step 4.  Widen the table window so you can see the new fields that have been added.   The "Attributes of Gwndep99.shp" table (destination table) now has fields appended from the "Attributes of Countbnd.shp" table (source table) groundwater sources for each county.
